Apostle John, who addressed himself as an Elder prayed for Gaius (i) to prosper in all things; (ii) be in health; (iii) just as his soul prospers. New Testament prosperity is not limited to material wealth but in the context of this epistle, John who has witnessed martyrdom, persecutions and tribulations, desired prosperity for Gaius from the perspective of the original Greek word, namely “a good journey” – to fulfill God’s destiny in his life. This is exemplified in the use of the same Greek word in Romans 1:10. As much as divine healing is a mystery by itself, the fundamental truth is that it is always God’s desire to heal us, His children. From the Scriptures, we discover many principles relating to the subject of healing to give us a balanced understanding about the subject. Finally, John wrote about the priority and superiority of inner prosperity. The key to inner prosperity is the “truth” that is in Gaius and that he “walks (lives in the reality)” in the truth. James 1:21 gives us a clear imagery of the truth that is engrafted in us. It requires the quality of meekness at our end which will lead to us “opening up” to the truth, for the entrance of His Word gives light. The “opening up” leads to “the cutting of the Word” by the finger of God as He writes upon our hearts. God is enlisting His end-time army by beginning a deep work in their hearts. Will you be meek and open up your heart to be cut by His finger today?
