Reflections on Psalm 107

This Psalm ended by stating that the wise will observe the preceding verses and gain an understanding on the lovingkindness of God. How great is our God and how great is His lovingkindness. It is beyond us to fully fathom the greatness of God. When we realize our insignificance in the grand scheme of things and how the great God of the universe is interested in our lives – this is truly mind boggling and should move our hearts to trust in Him. Not only is He a great God, He is One Who is interested to draw near to us. He wants to be near us. This Psalm tells us four different categories of people who do not deserve God’s help and attention but God was shown to respond to their cries for help. Even though God is desirous of drawing near to us, He will not violate us by forcing Himself on us. One of the ways, we welcome His divine intervention in our lives is, as can be seen in this chapter, when the people cried out to Him. By crying out to Him, it is an expression of humility, dependence and openness of heart. God responded to the cries of His people and His people experienced the tremendous goodness of God. This led to sincere thanksgiving rising from within our hearts to Him!
