There are many truths and spiritual lessons that can be drawn from this Biblical account of the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Firstly, we can identify with the Samaritan on the fact that we do not know what we desire. Most of the times, we are unable to identify or give a name to the innermost desire within us. Secondly, we also do not know what we worship as was told by Jesus to the Samaritan woman. This has to be examined from the light of man’s original state when he was first created before sin entered into the human race. Oftentimes, we are also trapped in a “time puzzle”, like the Samaritan woman. Jesus revealed Himself as the very present God – “I am the I am”. An important truth that was revealed to the Samaritan woman was that the “Father is seeking…”. Let us be the child who would come to the Father in simplicity and childlike faith, leaving behind our independence and the man-made complexities.
