Inner Life Principles - Jesus Walking on Water

We are called to pray to the Father Who is in secret. God meets us in our interior (inner) secret place. Have we ever wondered what is the condition of our inner lives? We can draw many spiritual principles concerning the inner life from the account of Jesus walking on water in the Gospels. God uses people and circumstances in our lives to umask the condition of our inner lives. There was an urgency in Jesus sending His disciples away – which spoke of the need to be focused on the inner life. The obedience of the disciples did not guarantee external prosperity but ensured soul prosperity which Jesus was more concerned with. Jesus wants to address “the wind and the waves” and “the fear” inside us – for these are the hindrances in our inward walk with God. These are the issues that caused Peter to almost drown in the water. When Jesus spoke to Peter of the “doubt” which caused him to stop walking on the water – He was pointing to these conditions within him.  May our gaze be transfixed on the beauty and wonder of Jesus and not bewitched by the issues of life that draw us away from our gaze upon Him.
