An invitation to taste and see the goodness of God is a call to become aware of God’s goodness. The Bible is peppered with verses that described the nature of God – His goodness. Our God is a good God, that is His nature and His attribute and His acts are good, too. To have a balanced perspective of God’s goodness, we have to understand that Paul had asked us to consider the goodness and the severity of God. We have to recognize “spiritual vulnerability” and “brokenness” towards God are works of the Holy Spirit to create a capacity for us to become aware of God’s goodness. Pride and mental assent are hindrances to becoming aware of God’s goodness. When we are intentional about being focused on God’s goodness, we are practicing the awareness of God’s goodness. God and His goodness cannot be divorced – we cannot desire one without the other. To taste and see that God is good – we have to have a taste for God. The world is also tempting us to taste and see that what it offers is good. Let us become more aware of His goodness!
