Are we obsessed by [ministry, need, problem, self, fear, worry] or Jesus, Himself? God promised that if we seek Him, we will find Him when we have searched for Him with all our hearts. It is a conditional promise given by God. We also see it consistently throughout both the Old and New Testaments. Fire is a metaphor that speaks of passion. Just as we can fan the flame, we can also quench the flame. There is a participation on our part for the fire to either burn brighter or to douse the fire. In considering this important topic in our spiritual lives, there are some pertinent questions that we should ask ourselves and reflect upon: – (1) What makes the fire within us die down?; (2) How do we know if the fire within us is burning brightly or the fire within us is dying down?; (3) How do we keep the fire within us burning and burning brighter? Our God is a God Who promised, “…a smoking flax He will not quench” – may we likewise have the same attitude towards others. Truly, may we ask the Holy Spirit to help us to make Christ, our Magnificent Obsession in our lives!
