Year-end Reflections on Psalm 90

A timely reflection on the last day of the year. A time to call to remembrance our God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. Moses testified that the people of God found Him as His refuge and a dwelling place as they were awed by God’s eternity. At the same time, we should be humbled by human life’s brevity – how insignificant we are without God. This would lead us to live our lives with purpose and meaning so as not to be filled with regrets. And how important it is for us to forget the past (the unpleasant snapshots we have taken of ourselves and others) in this short period of time on this earth. Moses also reminded us of a God Who is Holy and for us to be appalled by His wrath. As much as He loves us, He cannot tolerate sin. Knowing this gives us the comfort that He is the Just God on His throne and we learn to cultivate a reverential fear towards Him in our lives. The closing paragraphs of this Psalm revealed our need for God’s mercy and favour in our lives. Let us call upon our prayer-answering God.
