Genesis 28:16 NLT
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”

In Genesis 28:16, Jacob awoke from his sleep to discover that [he did not know / he was not aware / he failed to discern] the Manifest Presence of God that was present with him.

As a metaphor, firstly, Jacob had to be awakened from his sleep.

How many of us live our lives not knowing that we live it in a way as if we have been in a deep sleep in terms of our engagement with God and our capacity and consciousness for Him. We have been lulled to sleep by popular ego-centric and self-centred messages of our times, fueling our selfish wants and pursuits, sometimes in the name of religion. It is all about us and our big heads.

We are alive and awake but asleep in our hearts and spirits – the very organs that were embedded with the capacity to hunger and desire for God above all else.

Ephesians 5:14 NKJV – Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”

Let His Voice awaken us from our sleep today!
